SPLIT – situated on the Adriatic coast in the Central Dalmatia, on the peninsula of Split (of Marjan). The oldest city nucleus is located beneath the Marjan park-forest, situated west from the old city nucleus.
Split is the largest city in Dalmatia, the second largest city in Croatia (the wider metropolitan area has more than 200,000 inhabitants), Croatia’s second largest port and third port on the Mediterranean by the number of passengers transported.

The peninsula of Split is surrounded by the islands of Brač, Hvar, Šolta and Čiovo. The city`s origin is associated with the construction of the Diocletian`s Palace, between the year 295 and 305, due to the favorable geographic position and the pleasant Mediterranean climate.

The Diocletian`s Palace is the largest and the best preserved palace of the Late Antiquity in the world and since 1979 is under UNESCO protection. Aqueduct from the Jadro River spring dating from that period is still in use. The citizens of Split tend to say that their city is “the sportiest city in the world”, because Split is a city with the highest number of medals in respect to the number of its citizens.
In the very center of the city, there are the thermal baths with their own spring of sulphurous medicinal water.
There are many beaches and swimming areas around the city, and the most popular is Bačvice, a sand beach almost in the heart of the town.

It is rich in cultural and entertainment life, so during the summer season is holding the traditional theater festival Split summer, when performing dramas, operas and concerts (from mid July to mid August). Split also hosts pop music festivals, Art – Summer, folklore shows, folk feast Days of Radunica, and two film festivals Split film festival and Mediterranean film festival Split. During the year there are holding Days of Marulić (in April), Book of Mediterranean (in October), and among the traditional events Day of St. Cross, the Flowers Show, the Ball of Split, wine show. City Day and the Day of patron St. Duje who was executed by the emperor Diocletian, is celebrating on the 7th May.

Split is connected by ferries with the central Dalmatian islands (Brač, Šolta, Hvar, Vis, Mljet, Korčula, Lastovo …), and with Croatian ports Pula, Dubrovnik and international Ancona in Italy and Greece. In Resnik (Kaštela) is the nearest airport, about 20 kilometers of distance from Split.

How to reach Split?

Arriving by plane: Split Airport is located at the very exit from the town of Kastela, towards Trogir. It is at 20 km distance from Split, and at 6 km from Trogir. Connecting Split is connected with Zagreb several times a day, but also with European capitals.

Public Transport to/from airport: Close to Split Airport there is a bus stop of lines No. 37 (Split – Trogir; Trogir – Split) and No. 38 (Split Airport – Kastel Stari – Split; Split – Kastel Stari – Split Airport).

Arriving by train: From Split to the north of the country and further to Europe you can travel by train and you can transport your car. Railway Station is located three minutes walk from the port and it is not necessary to use means of transport.

Arriving by bus or car: The easiest way to reach Split is from the north, following the A1 highway or with state road known as “Adriatic highway” along the sea or with other roads that are connecting continental Croatia with Split. If you are coming from the direction of Zagreb and Rijeka following the highway, you will need 3.30 h to the junction of Dugopolje. Exiting the highway at the junction of Dugopolje, you should look for a marker denoting the entrance to Split and there you enter the state road D1 in the direction east. Then continuing down the ring road to the junction of Bilice and following the marker denoting the entrance to Split, you enter the state road D8, that is the Ulica zbora Narodne Garde Street. Then you follow the markers denoting the Ferry port which will take you via Poljička Street and Zvonimirova Street to the port terminal in the Port.

Split bus station is 3 minutes walk from the airport and is visible when arriving by ferry from the direction of Ancona – Split. Split is well connected by bus with the entire Croatian and other European capitals.Information: www.viamichelin.com

ANCONA – the city and the port on the Italian coast of the Adriatic Sea in the central part of Italy; the capital city of the homonymous province in the region of Marche; 101.909 inhabitants (2005). Ancona developed in the form of an amphitheatre around the Port at the north-west slopes of the Monte Conero mountain (572 m). This is an important port with trans-Adriatic connections with the Croatian coast ( Zadar and Split ). It has highly developed fishing industry, oil refinery, shipbuilding industry, engineering, chemical and food industry. It has numerous architectural monuments: Arch of Traian, ( 115 ), Romanesque Church (12-13 ct.), Cathedral (13 ct.), Loggia dei Mercanti, work of Juraj Matejev Dalmatinac (Master Dalmata Giorgio da Sebenico).

How to reach Ancona?

Arriving by plane: Ancona Falconara Airport is situated strategically in the centre of Italy, in an area which includes Ancona Railway station and harbour and Falconara Railway and goods stations as well as the new multi-mode transport centre Interporto. A viaduct connects Airport with the motorways for Rome, Milan and Bari.

Arriving by train to/from airport: Falconara Ancona Airport offers a direct railway service from Castelferretti Station (in front of the Airport terminal) and Ancona station. From Ancona it is possible to reach various national and international destinations.

Arriving by bus to/from airport:: Bus tickets for sale at the newspapers stand in the Departures terminal. The Conero Bus Company connected Ancona Airport with the Ancona railway. For further information visit: www.conerobus.it

Arriving by train: When you go from the railway station to the port, at the bus station which is located in front of the train station you go by bus number 12. It will lead you to the agency where you do check-in. After check-in you go by bus number 20 to the port where boarding your ferry.

Arriving by bus or car: When coming from the A14, find exit Ancona Nord (16 km away from the port). After the toll booth, take the state road SS 76 and follow signs to Ancona, then continue on SS 16 and follow the signs Ancona Center, Port and Port Gates. After passing Flaminia, drive along the seaside and the railway (located on the left for those in direction to the port). Indication “LAST EXIT” “BOARDING PORT”, located just before entering town, turn right and follow the additional guidance “Porto “, leading to the mole 15, XXIX September
